Commitment is key to transforming your life.

Staying committed to changing your life is so important.  Commitment is key to transforming your life.  Once we decide what we have to change in our life, in our way of being, to be different, we make the changes in how we do life.  But to keep the transformation in place takes a great deal of commitment, commitment to staying the course, to staying present to the path, to not give up when the course appears problematic and doubt appears.  Changing our life usually also involves creating a structure or routine that will enable the transformation to evolve or emerge.  Staying present to and committed to the structure or schedule will enable us to continue altering our life.  It is inside a structure, schedule or routine that we will change our life, to create new habits from which to live differently and more authentically.

Chapter Ten – Release the Brakes

We live our life sometimes within a “comfort zone” of our creation. This “comfort zone” is made up of beliefs and thoughts that limit oneself and negative images about self that stop even our best of intentions of changing or transforming our life. Our “comfort zone”, as Canfield says, is a prison we live in.

We can change our “comfort zone” by doing a variety of things. One way
is by using positive affirmations and self talk. A second way is by
creating new and powerful internal images of what you want. And third,
we can promote change by changing your behavior.

It is important to get that we are never stuck, that we can never
change. Our limiting thoughts about ourselves and reality create an
internal image which in turn governs our behavior that reinforces our
thoughts and beliefs especially about oneself.

We need to stop complaining about a negative situation that we are in,
as the focus of the complaining continues to reinforce the negative
experience hense continuing to create what it is that we say we don’t
want. Instead of continuing to focus on what you don’t want, it is
important to focus on what you do want, on the new reality that you want to experience.

Our self image regulates our level of performance. When we do or
accomplish things in life we may reach a point when the accomplishments
are starting to go outside the parameters of our self image. Our self
image will put limits upon that which we will accomplish or achieve. We
tend to not go outside our “comfort zone” of achieving, that which is
determined by our self image.

Positive affirmations are very powerful in promoting change. Canfield
makes several suggestions with respect to how to create them. Start with the words “I am.” Use present tense. State in the positive, affirm what you want, as if you have it. Keep it brief. Keep it specific. Include an action word ending in ing. Include a feeling or emotion. Make the affirmation about you, not someone else. Add or something better.

Canfield also talks about creating an affirmation from inside a
visualization, from within a visualization of what it is you want to
create for yourself. Once created, review your affirmations in the
morning, at noon and in the evening, before bed. Read each affirmation
out loud. Put your affirmations on 3 x 5 cards. Record your affirmations and listen to them while you work or sleep.

You have never been there yet!

Assisting people in altering the course of their life sometimes amounts to helping them to create a possibility that was not there before. One such possibility can be found with a person who experiences fear and stress with the thought of going back to be with a particular person, a place where they came from and or certain situations and circumstances. Unsure of how they will be able to cope with or handle a particular person, a place or situation they tend to experience in some cases a great deal of stress, anxiety and fear, especially as the reality of the situation draws closer. While the individual will most likely have to make certain changes in his or her life, one transforming thought that can help them to act, do and be different is to get the fact that they have never been where they are going. Everything for them is new, brand new. In a literal sense, it will be a new experience.

One person I knew had invested two years of his life in transforming who he had been being. When he had made the decision to return to his three children and wife he started to experience a great deal of stress and worry. All he could remember was how it had been, what the past was like and now he was starting to think about or even doubt whether he could handle what he was going back to. In a conversation with him I suggested that he consider the idea or thought that he had never been to his home town,to his family, that it was all brand new. Part of the conversation involved an explanation of how the physical world had altered itself many times over and that in a very real sense what he was “returning” to had been gone for along time, for at least the two years he had been away. Once he allowed himself to consider the idea, that is, the possibility of it, that there was no returning, only a going to something new, he was able to create the space necessary to create his life the way that he wanted and that was in alignment with his recovery.

To not get this transforming idea is to continue to live in the past or at least have the past influence if not determine how they will be, and even, who they will be. The reality is that we are always moving into something new, never back to, always forward. If we don’t get it and apply it that which we are moving into will be a replay of the past. The past will keep being recreated as our future, being lived in the present. Remember, you have never been there yet!

Transforming Your Life Takes Commitment

Transforming your life takes commitment. Transforming your life takes commitment even when you dont want to have it. Every day I practice three affirmations, affirmations that are about transforming my life. There are times when I do not want to do them, that I start to resist the process. However, at these times when I am being resisting, I do them any way.

The first affirmation is about letting go of my past. “I joyously release the past. I am at peaceful.”

The second affirmation is about my physical well being. “My body restores itself now to its natural state of health.”

The third affirmation is about my financial state. “My income is increasiing by one thousand dollars a day.”

I practice these affirmation in the morning and then again in the evening. I also practice them throughout the day when my circumstance permits. When I say my affirmation, I practice feeling each affirmation. Directing your attention and focus to feel the affirmations will strengthen their effect in life.

Practicing my affirmations takes commitment on my part to change my life.
